Three Poems by Neil Collis

parallel structure

moving to a parallel structure
for self-deception and self-defence
in the face of an uncertain future

having read the relevant literature
on the cost of anti-establishments
moving to a parallel structure

well prepared for misadventure
ready for a series of accidents
in the face of an uncertain future

aware of the absurd and obscure
existence informs essence
moving to a parallel structure

a personal metaphysical culture
to pursue stolen moments
in the face of an uncertain future

time it was for the talking cure
embracing evanescence
in the face of an uncertain future
moving to a parallel structure

sunset way

counting down to come what may
on the path of the philosophical
heading down the sunset way

consciousness had come to stay
exhausted and emotional
counting down to come what may

the easy answer is hard to say
the only truth is musical
heading down the sunset way

arriving early for judgement day
time enough for the ritual
counting down to come what may

recognising the role you play
in sight of the sacrificial
heading down the sunset way

knowing the price you had to pay
at peace with the impartial
heading down the sunset way
counting down to come what may

just passing through

some scenes are best just passing through
empty nights without end
left with only remembering to do

burdened with history sad but true
no choice but to pretend
some scenes are best just passing through

all was known that never knew
no reputation to defend
left with only remembering to do

seeds were sown that never grew
no fences left to mend
some scenes are best just passing through

all that remains is a rear view
rounding the final bend
left with only remembering to do

no accounts that are overdue
no last messages to send
left with only remembering to do
some scenes are best just passing through
