Three Poems by Dave Drayton

Tea

The breath when sick

mouth feels viscous
imagining bringing
your face taut into a
point then bringing
that point further a
mess of passageways
flattened thick air
hard to pass along to
where it’s needed now
blocked nose so teeth
exposed to find some
way less trafficked
for the mess illness
produces in the body
while it mightn’t feel
it this is living now
still this is living

curdle/hurdle
